Founded in 1977, Study Team was the first Spanish language school in Cuba. For Study Team, cultural understanding is very important, so a particular emphasis is put on learning about Cuban life and culture. For this reason, Study Team’s lessons do not take place in the main school building but in a local home or cultural center. To help students develop their cultural understanding of the island, Study Team works with Paradiso, a local agency offering cultural tourist activities.
As Study Team Cuba has three schools in the country, you can split your Spanish course over three destinations without breaking the flow of your studies. After your stay in Havana, you can choose to continue your course in Trinidad or Santiago de Cuba without having to pay the registration fee again.
All of Study Team Havana’s lessons and host families are arranged in Vedado, a cosmopolitan neighborhood in downtown Havana with a number of parks, restaurants and night clubs. The Old Town and Malecón are only a short distance away.
The school can help students to plan activities and excursions in their free time and most students choose to meet up at after class to spend their evening together. Each Thursday night, the school organizes a meeting where students can ask staff for help to plan their weekend trips, which could include going to Playas del Este (a twelve kilometers-long beach just outside the city), the Valle de Viñales (a lush valley with many tobacco farms) or Varadero (a famous resort town in the Matanzas province).
