Study abroad in Munich

Study German in Munich, Germany's third largest city and the capital of the traditional Bavarian region.

Although it may have started as a market town, contemporary Munich is a cosmopolitan city and plays a key role in Germany's economy. The headquarters of many companies are located here, including Siemens, Allianz and BMW. As a result, Munich is one of the European Union's wealthiest cities and therefore enjoys a high quality of life, being very clean and safe.

Munich has a reputation for its love of the arts, which is due to the creative tastes of the kings and dukes of the Wittelsbach dynasty who ruled Bavaria for eight centuries. Here, there are plenty of world-class galleries, museums and concert halls. History lovers will enjoy visiting the Residenz, the city’s royal palace, and admiring the beautiful baroque and neoclassical architecture found throughout the city.

Bavaria, of which Munich is the state capital, is known for its beautiful forest, lakes and mountains, which make it a popular destination with outdoor lovers. Here you can explore incredible fairy tale style castles such as the Schloss Neuschwanstein (used by Disney as the model for the castle in their adaptation of Sleeping Beauty), go for walks through green meadows, ski in the alps or go sailing on the lakes in the Starnberger region.

Every autumn, Munich holds its annual beer festival, Oktoberfest (or Wiesn as it is often called by locals). With locals and visitors alike dressed in traditional Dirndls and Lederhosen and hundreds of different local beers and traditional dishes to try, a lively and fun-loving atmosphere reigns during this period.
