Study English in Boston, an attractive city on the banks of the Charles River in Massachusetts.

Boston is one of the oldest cities in America and, meaning it is full of historical sites and great museums. The city was founded in 1630 and later played an important role in the American Revolution. The city’s four kilometer-long Freedom Trail, a  path which passes 16 places of historical significance,  is a fantastic place to learn about this part of the city’s history.

The city is the home of some of the most important universities in the USA including Harvard and MIT. The city’s students give Boston a vibrant, young atmosphere and the innovative approaches for which these institutions are famous are reflected in Boston’s beautiful architecture and thriving arts scene. The city is also well-known for sports, with locals passionate about the city's teams including the Celtics (basketball), the Bruins (hockey) and the New England Patriots (American football). Furthermore, many runners know the city because of the famous Boston Marathon, which is held every April on Patriots’ Day and attracts around half a million spectators.

The cuisine in Boston is focused on seafood, with local specialties including lobster, oysters, cod and chowder. The best place to try local specialties is in the Seaport District, where there is a lovely view of the harbor. Other great neighborhoods to explore include upper class Beacon Hill, the Italian influenced North End and Victorian Back Bay. For a day out of the city bustle, head to Boston Harbor Islands for a long walk, some kayaking or a spot of fishing.

Being the home to some incredible academic institutions and known for its scholarly environment, Boston is a fantastic place to study English. The Boston accent is very similar to the standard American accent that is used throughout TV and films, so students will find it easy to communicate and understand the locals from the very beginning of their stay.
