Amauta Tambopata is located in the heart of the Peruvian rainforest, just one hour away from Puerto Maldonado by boat. The school has beautiful views of the river and rainforest and there are numerous incredible trails to explore from on the school's doorstep.
Amauta Tambopata is an off-shoot of Amauta’s main school in Cusco. As a result, the school offers a standard course option to all students and everyone stays in bungalows next to the school. The course includes a transfer from Puerto Maldonado. Students can choose to spread their course over the Cusco and Tambopata schools by taking the 'Travelling Classroom' program, which includes three weeks in Cusco and one week in Tambopata. It is also possible to further tailor your course by combining time in all three Amauta schools (Cusco, Sacred Valley and Tambopata). If you are interested in this option, please contact us for more information. Please note that students combining courses between Amauta Tambopata and the other Amauta schools will need to arrange their own flight from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado.
As part of the Amauta Tambopata course package, students go on various excursions such as hikes through the rainforest, a trip to Sandoval Lake to canoe through the water and observe the turtles and monkeys, a zip wire canopy tour, a visit to the butterfly farm, cooking lessons and a chance to see a local indigenous community. Additional excursions are also often available at an extra cost, such as a visit to Macaw Clay Lick.
