ECELA Buenos Aires

ECELA Buenos Aires offers high quality Spanish teaching and a range of activities. The pleasant atmosphere in the school provides the ideal backdrop to your learning and the "Kitchen Tias" make sure you are well-fed with their tempting snacks. The school is located in the Recoleta, in the southern centre of Buenos Aires just a short walk away from various tourist attractions, the famous Recoleta cemetery, and many shops and restaurants.
With ECELA you can study in five other cities in three South American countries (Argentina, Peru and Chile). All schools use the same teaching methods so you can study Spanish in another country while staying with an ECELA school. Once you have registered in one ECELA school, you do not need to pay the registration fee again.
The school is housed in two historic houses, the main building of which is on Junín Street. With its marble staircase, mosaics and inner courtyard, this building has a unique charm. Fifteen classrooms are spread across three floors, from which you have a view of the courtyard. The second building is a villa with beautiful wooden stairs and nine classrooms, just a short walk from the main school building.
The ECELA team organizes a daily activity program including trips in the city centre, salsa and cooking lessons, tango concerts, museum visits, kayaking and cinema outings. Some of these activities are free and others are offered at a reduced price. The ECELA staff can also assist you to plan your own activities, such as weekend excursions, for your free time.
All ECELA teachers have a university diploma and, on average, two years of experience teaching Spanish.

The language course was very good. Yalea and ECELA are weorganizedsed and everything went perfectly.
If I could change anything, I would not take private lessons again because of the following reasons: it is difficult to meet people when you only take pricate lessone because they usually take place in the afternoon, so you cannot even take part in the group excursions in the afternoons. I could also only partly enjoy the city because most stores are only open in the afternoons. According to my roommates the classes were not very full, so you can learn enough in the group classes as well.

Great stay! The teachers are excellent, very patient and competent. The school also offers plenty of extracurricular activities to get to know the city, its culture and other students at the school. Classes are organized in small groups! We learned very quickly. I recommend :)

Firstly, the accommodation: We had an incredibly nice family. It was an older couple who had another student from Hong Kong living with them for half a year. The four of us got along really well and always had dinner together, freshly prepared and delicious. I got to know some of the typical foods. Homemade empanadas, alfajores, pollo al sal, malhechos, milanesas, tortas and so on ... and I also learned a lot about the Argentinian and Porteño culture. I heard many local sayings, "che boludo!" The host family was the perfect opportunity to put the Castellano which I learned in school into practice every night. I had homemade bread with dulce de leche every morning!
The school was a 20-minute walk from my family. The Avenida de Santa Fé is already busy early in the morning and you get the feeling that this street never sleeps! It made me feel very safe, and you see all sorts of different people.
The school "ECELA" is small and cute. The rooms and the infrastructure are very simple but it's nice. The lessons advance extremely fast, so you have to learn and do your homework if you want to keep up. To be honest, it was sometimes too fast for me and I would have liked to participate more in class which, was sometimes too hard for me because I didn´t have the necessary vocabulary yet.
The teachers are very open and friendly, they know a lot about Buenos Aires, Argentina and South America in general.
I was fortunate to meet a lot of people from all over the world: Brazil, the USA, Canada, France and Holland etc.
About three times a week there are different activities. Visits to museums, wine tasting, tours of the cemetery, film evenings, tango classes etc. I think some were too expensive so I didn´t participate in those.
About Buenos Aires in general: You won't be bored in this city! There is so much to do, to see, lots of nice cafes and libraries, lots of museums, restaurants, events, festivals, markets, parks... It's typical life in a big city, which I liked a lot but on the other hand, it was hard to see that many poor people. I also missed the typical Latin American spirit a little bit but I know that Buenos Aires is a huge city and you cannot expect that. I did still find the people very helpful and open.
Altogether I like it a lot here and it´s a great experience. Many, many thanks again for organizing I am truly happy!
All the best,
Leandra

The language course in Argentina was absolutely amazing! The teachers at ECELA are very competent and helpful and the atmosphere is family-like. The ten weeks in Buenos Aires were a great experience which I will treasure in my memories. Staying with the host family was also very pleasant and I learned a lot from the culture of the Porteños.
My Spanish has also improved a lot. I can now have a conversation without problems. I recommend everyone, who seriously wants to improve their Spanish, to take Spanish private lessons and stay with a host family rather than in an apartment with basically only international students.
Best regards and thank you for the organization!

Good, better, Yalea! Three months in South Amerca with Argentina and Chile lie behind me. Three months with nice people, funny moments and a fascinating language. Or so to say three unforgettable months! Flights, accommodations, and schools - everything was perfectly planned and organized by you. It could not have been better!
Muchas gracias y hasta la próxima!

Buenos Aires is an incredible city. I am not a city person but this city has something to offer for everyone's' taste. Additionally, it is easy to get to know people in the city of Buenos Aires as well as at school. The school organises an an activity or excursion every day - there is always entertainment. I would recommend Buenos Aires to anyone.
If we would have known that the Spanish program in the Amazon in Ecuador would be so great, we would have booked not one but two weeks of language course in the rainforest. The lodge was very clean. We lived in small houses and the food was great. Spanish every morning and excursion into the jungle in the afternoon and evening where we learned a lot and saw many animals.
The best part was Galapagos. The islands are absolutely amazing!! We had a private teacher and a personal guide. We went on great excursions every day. We played with seals in the water, went snorkeling right next to a manta ray who was three meters long and saw small sharks from very close by. The nature of the Galapagos is incredible and also recommendable to anyone.
