This language trip was worth it. The school was perfect and the teachers fantastic. I learned a lot and I appreciate that I was classified according to my language level. I could benefit from having 6 private lessons per day, because there were no other students with the same English level. It was an awesome privilege which I appreciate.

My experience during these two weeks has been excellent, the city is very friendly, a perfect size, culturally diverse and a great place to learn English, as there aren’t many people who speak Spanish.

The school has been very good, the classes are going well and it’s a great place to learn as they ensure that you integrate yourself and continue learning English outside the classroom  through various activities. I really liked the dynamic lessons as they are very interactive and you talk a lot.

In terms of accommodation: no problems. During my first week in a residence, I found the room a bit small, but now that I am staying with a family, I have had a good experience and they have been great with me as I have been practicing my English and learning more about everyday life in Britain from them.

The St Giles language school in Brighton has a great location, not far from the busy streets with their trendy cafes and the famous Brighton Pier. Teaching takes place in classrooms in three adjoining buildings. All of these rooms have modern facilities with projectors and interactive whiteboards. As my lessons took place on the top floor, I had a bit of exercise each morning as there was no lift.

All my teachers were very professional, friendly and helpful, even when I had lots of questions. I took the eight-week course to prepare for the Cambridge Advanced exam, which I took during my final week.

After class, you can take part in various activities organized by the school. These include things like going to the cinema, theatre, beach or pub, playing volleyball or football, yoga classes or trying cream tea or fish and chips, among other options. On the weekend, there is also the option to book trips to famous places such as Windsor, Oxford, Cambridge or Stonehenge.

In the school’s basement there is a canteen where there is good food for low prices. However, you have to wait a long time as it’s a popular place for students to have lunch.

For my accommodation I chose the Host Family option. My Host Family’s house was right next to a bus stop from where I could get to the school in half an hour. During the week there is a bus every 10 minutes and on the weekend at least every 30 minutes. I bought a weekly bus pass, which was well worth it. With these passes, you can use the night bus for free and you can also take the bus along the coast to Eastbourne.

My Host Family was very open and attentive to my needs. There were no children in the house, but there was a cat. The food was always great and they took a lot of care in what they cooked. Once a week I could wash my clothes and they regularly changed the sheets for me. From the house you can reach the nearest field in just 10 minutes where there are green fields, cows, sheep and rabbits. I enjoyed getting my exercise by going for a jog there, from where there is also a fantastic view of Brighton.

I chose Brighton for my language course abroad by chance rather than on purpose. It turned out to be a good choice; Brighton is very cosmopolitan and creative in a way that I have not found in any other city. It was a bit of a pity that there were many other Swiss students at the school. This often meant people spoke in German rather than English to make communication easier.

In summary, I had an instructive and exciting time in Brighton and can only recommend it.
