Study Spanish in Montañita and enjoy the sunshine, beautiful beaches and fun-loving lifestyle.
Montañita is a small beach town with turquoise water, fantastic surfing waves and a great party scene. The water here can reach up to 26 degrees Celsius, making it a popular spot for relaxing in the water as well as sunbathing on the sands. The town was originally a small fishing village, before it became a popular hippy beach destination in the 1960s. Now it is best known for its waves, but the laidback attitude still reigns and many visitors find themselves enchanted by the multicultural and liberal atmosphere, meaning they stay much longer than they intended to!
In February each year, the town hosts its annual surfing competition, when the town is particularly busy with water sports enthusiasts. The quality of waves here is consistently good, averaging between 0.3 and 1 meter high during the summer. The town is also popular with young people looking for a good time, with the calle de los cócteles inviting visitors to party at any time of day or night. Here most club entry is free and parties extend into the streets and onto the beach.
