German Language School (GLS) Berlin was first opened in 1983 and has been offering an excellent quality of German language education since, growing to be one of the largest and best-known schools in Germany. The school’s high quality of education has been recognized as the school received Study Travel Magazine’s Star School award for the best language school in Germany five times.
The GLS school campus is located in the trendy neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg. It is impressive, spanning over 16,000 square meters including the school classroom buildings, library, restaurant, a hotel and apartments where students can conveniently stay on campus. The buildings are historically important but have been fully renovated with modern interiors. Between the buildings are grassy lawns, tall trees and outdoor terraces which provide a touch of greenery and the opportunity to relax outside of the classroom. The school's own hotel building also features a beautiful swimming pool from the 1900s in a cathedral-like building which has been fully restored and can be used by students.
The teaching methodology at GLS is focused on professional high-quality education, with two teachers leading each class so that the students become accustomed to different speaking styles and voices. Students are encouraged to speak as much as possible so that their mistakes can be corrected early on. All teachers at GLS are native German speakers and hold a university degree and several years experience in teaching German as a foreign language. Students can also take their TestDaF exam here as the school is a registered testing center.
In addition to their effective teaching methodology, the school encourages the use of German outside of the classroom. The school organizes a program of seminars, visits to sites of interest in Berlin and excursions to other cities in Germany. Many of these are accessible as a part of the course fee or at a reduced price for GLS students. Additionally, excursions are organized for public holidays when classes are not held and each week the school organizes a dinner in its restaurant for students to participate in and meet their classmates. With over 250 onsite staff at GLS, the team is always willing to ensure that their students have the best possible German language experience.
