Study English in Sliema, a vibrant coastal town on the Mediterranean island of Malta.
Once a quiet fishing village, Sliema literally means 'peace, comfort'. Nowadays it is a busy, residential area that joins together with St Julian's to create one continuous town across two peninsulas stretching to the island’s capital, La Valetta. Many locals and visitors choose to stay in Sliema because of its cosmopolitan atmosphere. It contains Malta’s most developed shopping district and a range of great restaurants and cafes. Historically, Sliema was seen as one of Malta’s wealthier districts, with the English ruling class building neoclassical and baroque style villas here in the nineteenth century. Now there are more apartments than villas, but this air of refinement remains.
Located right on the Mediterranean coast, Sliema offers plenty of opportunities for sunbathing and swimming in the famous turquoise sea. There are also various scuba diving and snorkeling schools.
